Gold Ammo now Silver
With 0.8.1 gold ammo can now be purchased with silver.
The price per shell will be the same as if you converted gold into credits.
The first reaction is “OMG now everyone will be using gold shots!” and I wouldn’t blame you to think like that however let me put a few thoughts forward as to why this won’t be the case.
Sure, loading that one or two “gold” shots will be worth it for everyone now but that’s it. The profit margins for most tanks and most players are not high enough to support them. So, I hear you say “just get premium and your woes will be over!”. I don’t think so! I was watching one of RivetingTVs staff play today and often making 40k silver LOSS on premium. That’s with only 2 of 16 shots not penetrating.
Now that won’t be the case every time but certainly opens your eyes to the rate these shells will be used.
The other thing to note is the “play-to-win” factor, it’s not there anymore. You can’t buy anything that someone can’t earn apart from gold tanks, and you still won’t be seeing them in any tournaments any time soon.
What this does do is encourage more people to buy premium because well, why not? More silver means more golden shots and a faster progression. Win win right?
In summery, I don’t believe that gold shots will be any more on the rampant than they are now apart from that many tankies will have one or two shots on them at all times.

I’ll try to be be short : the main problem with it that everyone will have the POSSIBILITY of penetrating anyone he comes across! Here’s an little example:
D And of course I wasn’t short, I’m sorry
yesterday I played my e-75 and I found myself in a situation where I was facing a t34 and a superpershing alone (not with full HP, but this doesn’t really matter) : I decided to focus on the t34 and ignore the supershing completely because I KNEW that it won’t be able to penetrate me from the front and it’s slow to be able to flank me. From 8.1 on I won’t be able to do such things. You know, if you want to be succesful in the game, you always have to consider the worst possible outcomes of a certain movement. So when this change goes alive I will be forced to sit back because even an IS will be able to penetrate me from the front. And that’s why heavies will become totally useless imho (they just can’t be sure that their armor will protect them), which is not good at all. And yeah, you can angle your armor and such things but look at some of the crazy gold penetration values: IS-4: 400mm. If you angle your hull, it will simply shoot your sides, you just can’t deflect those rounds. I hope you will understand the source of my fear or at least grab the essence of it
I totally understand Bcseke.
I too will miss the times where you can be more confident with your armour but the case will still be the same. You won’t be able to fully ignore the super pershing if he has gold round but you will still target him last as he still has _less_ chance of penetrating you than the others.
The thing to think is the situation you got yourself in might not be the best situation to be in!
One thing to think about is the changing of dynamics to the game with the gold shots and having to adapt to it. I just feel sorry for the Maus drivers who really can’t do much.
